Music Lessons
My Teaching Approach
Here at McClellan Harp Studio, I recognize that each student (child and adult alike!) comes with his or her own music understanding, motivations, and learning style.
Maybe you hope to play sacred music for church, play popular hits for your social media channel, play classical music for weddings, or play in a garage band or a symphony!
Maybe you want to push yourself to practice an hour a day, or find yourself stretched so thin that a 15 minute practice goal is much more realistic for you.
I want to know these things! The way that we approach your lessons will depend on your vision and the goals that we set together. I believe (speaking from personal experience) that individuals are SO much more motivated when they take ownership over what and how they learn.
In lessons, I provide structure, accountability, and musical expertise. I do my best to make tricky music theory concepts accessible and to answer the "why?" behind what we are working on.
Even with all of the motivation in the world, at some point, the rubber hits the road. There will come times of frustration, of not wanting to practice, of confusing counting, or challenging fingering. Never feel bad about these moments - they are what help you grow! I will be your biggest cheerleader as we work together with your bigger vision in mind!
